Thanksgiving Party Ideas for Kids
There are countless projects you can make using items such as gourds, Indian corn, pumpkins and dried apples. Many of these make excellent table decorations, for your Thanksgiving table.
You can make simple, yet festive, candle holders out of acorn squash. Slice off a small piece of the bottom, of each squash, so they will sit flat. Cut off the top of each, as well. Children can hollow them out just as you would a pumpkin using a spoon.
For added decoration use a lemon zester or vegetable peeler to create designs on the outer surface. You can also carve small designs into them with a sharp paring knife.
To use, place a tea light candle in each holder. Light and enjoy!
Creating greeting cards is another Thanksgiving craft project that will bring added enjoyment to family and friends. There is almost nothing better than a homemade card to let someone know that you are thinking of them. It can really brighten their day. Your child's homemade Thanksgiving card will stand out.
With the exception of card stock, you probably have enough materials around the house to make these cards. (If you are ‘crafty’ you more than likely have the card stock, as well… it comes in handy for so many things other than greeting cards.)
Dried flowers and other objects from nature make wonderful additions to these cards. Secure them to the front of the card with glue. You can go one step further and spray the flowers weeks with an acrylic sealer. In a pinch use hair spray. This will help to preserve them. (Care should be taken to spray only the flowers and not the surface of the card.)
Besides greeting cards, you can also make dinner invitations, place cards, etc. You are only limited by your creativity.
